HS D-Group Leaders
Every Sunday, as part of our youth group at The Edge, we break up into small discipleship groups we call "D-groups." These groups are where we get to dive deep into faith discussions & teachings. Get to know our awesome D-group leaders below.
BETHANY LEE-LEHNER
12th Grade Girls
Hi All! Our family has attended DUMC since 2013. I have been on this great journey with the 12 grade gals for the past 6 years. Man how is that possible! As we gear up to finish strong, I am excited to pour into their lives and help reinforce the spiritual truths that will equip them for adulthood. I am very fortunate to have my dear friend, Jenn, leading alongside me. She is my theology secret weapon. When I’m not hanging at the Edge, you might find me digging around in my flower gardens, hiking the local trails with my husband Adam or spending time with my daughters Maddy (20) and Olivia (17). Professionally, I have enjoyed an amazing 28-year nursing career at U of M. My prayer this year is for our senior ladies to own their faith on a deeper level as they transition out of high school. I can’t wait to see what God has in store!

12th Grade Girls
Hey everyone! I have the honor of hanging with the 12th grade girls and one of my bestie's (Bethany!!) every week. I work for U of M as an Administrative Assistant and love spending time outdoors. I especially like taking day trips and road trips with my hubby, Todd, and our daughter, Rayne (15). If the weather is nice, you can usually find me sitting on the deck with a book, a cup of coffee and on the best days, a friend. We've been hanging out at DUMC for a few years now and I'm so glad to be connected to the youth ministry of The Edge! My biggest hope for our senior girls is that we send them off with a real understanding of God in their heads and a deep connection to Him in their hearts.
MATT KASTEN
12th Grade Guys
I've been attending DUMC for the last several years and just started as a D-group leader last year. My dad (Steve) and I co-lead the wily 12th grade boys. It's a great opportunity to learn and grow in Christ with the high schoolers, and I really enjoy being a part of the Edge community. I graduated from Dexter High School in 2013 and from the University of Michigan in 2017. I currently live on the west side of Ann Arbor and work for the U-M School for Environment and Sustainability. I spend a lot of my spare time playing pretty much any sport, and I'm also involved with the 20s' something group and the Next Step Rec ministry.
STEVE KASTEN
12th Grade Guys
I just turned the slippery side of 50 and Rachelle and I just became empty nesters, so we’ve joined the edge team to continue to contribute to the youth at DUMC. I grew up in a great Christian home in and I’ve known the Lord since I was a young boy. We’ve attended DUMC for almost three years now and before that attended NorthRidge Church where I was a 4th and 5th grade small group leader. When I’m not at DUMC, I’m a pediatric/craniofacial plastic surgeon at Mott Hospital. I am excited and amazed at the cool things God is doing at DUMC (especially The Edge!) and honored to be a part of it!
DELANEY GARCIA
11th Grade Girls
Hello, my name is Delaney Garcia and I am so excited to be a leader for HS The Edge! I grew up in Dexter and have called DUMC my church home since middle school. I have been involved with The Edge, Club 56, the Nursery, VBS, and have been on many mission trips with the church. Over the summer I was the Children and Family Ministry Intern. I am currently a Stepping Stones teacher and participate in the 20 Somethings’ Bible Study on Sunday nights. I’m in my Junior year at Eastern Michigan University studying Biology. I can’t wait to work with you and your children this this fall while continuing to grow in my relationship with God.
ANNA KILEEN
11th Grade Girls
In May of 2020 I graduated from the University of Michigan, and soon after began attending DUMC. Just recently, I moved downtown Dexter as I began working at Michigan Medicine as a nurse! I’ve been going to churches and youth groups all my life, and absolutely love working with high schoolers. Spending time in the Word and growing closer with the Lord are the BEST and doing that with people is even better. I love being outside, making yummy desserts (and eating them), living with my main squeeze Joy Hook, and the man/myth/legend Harry Potter. I got connected through summer youth group and I am so excited to continue as a d-group leader!
MARCIA MITCHELL
11th Grade Girls
I am so excited to spend my Sunday evenings with the junior girls! After my previous D-group graduated, I missed the energy and connections, so I’m thankful to be back at the Edge. Our family has worshiped at DUMC for seven years, and we love being a part of this active, diverse, supportive, faith-filled church family. I enjoy mentoring the MOPS moms, singing in choir, and coordinating the DUMC Operation Christmas Child shoebox project. I’m also a huge fan of na-ture walks, Jazzercise, and photography, and am thankful for the flexibility of being a Jazzercise instructor, and portrait photographer. In fact, many of our Edge seniors and DUMC families are my favorite clients! My husband Bruce and I were expecting to be empty nesters this fall after our fourth and last child graduated in May… BUT 2020… so we now have two of our grown kids keeping us company for a while longer :) I look forward to getting to know the beautiful souls of the junior girls as we work through the ups and downs of life and grow closer to Jesus together!
KRISTIN TOMCZAK

My family and I have been attending Dexter United Methodist Church since 2014. I am so blessed to be a part of this amazing youth ministry, and especially to have been with these fantastic junior girls since sixth grade! I have loved getting to know these wonderful young ladies, building lasting relationships with them, and most of all, getting to know and grow in Jesus with them!!! My husband, Michael, is helping to lead the College D-group, and my daughter, Brianna, is a freshman at Hope College in Holland, MI, studying Theater and Media Communications. Our family has long enjoyed being a part of the youth group, Worship teams, Fine Arts and more! My favorite things are spending time with my family, singing with the Worship Band, riding my bicycle, and getting to hang out with these awesome kids!!

Our family has been attending DUMC for the past 4 years since we moved here from Birmingham, MI in 2016. I have been a small group leader for over 25 years, and got my start in youth ministry with Matt & Leigh back in 1995. My wife Heather, daughters Amanda, Janelle & I love it here in Dexter and have been hugely blessed by the Edge community. My career is in software sales, and my hobbies include family games, music, & pickleball. I love working with this amazing group of young men, I am very glad that God is not finished with me yet either!
JASON LOMAX

I have been attending DUMC since my family moved to Dexter in 1997. I was heavily involved in the youth group at DUMC before and during the transition to the EDGE. I graduated from Dexter in 2009 and EMU in 2016. I have been blessed with having parents (Tim & Kim) who have been heavily involved in DUMC through multiple projects and initiatives. I started working with the guys in my D group in late 2018 and have been loving it ever since. I work as a Credit Analyst for Bank Michigan. My hobbies include playing and coaching sports (Rugby, Disc Golf, Pickleball, etc.), playing games (video and board) and generally spending time with friends and family.

My family and I have been coming to Dexter United Methodist since 2008. DUMC has been such an amazing blessing in my life, and I am so happy to be growing in my relationship with Jesus here! This is my second year as a D-Group Leader and I am excited to dive right into another year with the Middle School Kids! I am a full-time mom to two fantastic kids: Kyler and Luke. My daughter Kyler is in 10th grade and my son Luke is in 8th grade and they love coming to The Edge on Sunday nights. When I’m not on mom duty, I am a fitness coach at Just CrossFit in Ann Arbor and the Dexter Wellness Center. I love to read, run and hang out with my family in my free time.

10th Grade Girls
I grew up in Dexter, and Dexter United Methodist Church has been an important part of my life since I was a child. I've enjoyed being part of the DUMC family and I'm so excited to continue this year as a D-Group leader! This is my third year as a D-Group leader, and my first year as a HS D-Group leader. I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2017 (Go Blue!) and I got married that summer. You'll see my husband, Charlie, helping with HS D-Groups as well. During the week I work as a business analyst at the University of Michigan Medical School. In my free time, I enjoy watching movies, reading, and spending time with my friends and family.

My wife, Danelle, and our two daughters, Erin (Class of 2021) and Megan (Class of 2025), have been attending Dexter United Methodist since late summer 2015. Erin started attending the Edge in 7th grade, and while going through the “What On Earth Am I Here For (The Purpose Driven Life),” I felt a distinct nudge from the Holy Spirit to get involved with the middle schoolers. Since that was the last thing I ever thought I’d be doing, I figured that it was definitely God speaking. I began helping with the then 6th-grade boys at the tail end of the school year and loved it. I’m not sure who likes playing the games more—the kids or me. I am excited to be part of the Class of 2023 boys’ faith journeys as they explore what it means to follow Christ. As hobbies and interests go, I’m really a complete nerd. I’d rather watch a sci-fi movie than a football game, or play a board game than basketball. I believe The Edge is where God wants to use me for now. Pray that the Class of 2023 boys and I will be able to have fun and be challenged as we get to know Jesus better—together.

I grew up in Dexter and started attending the Edge my junior year of
High School! I was able to go to the first DUMC youth mission trip to
Haiti in my senior year and was very grateful for the experience. This
is my 3rd year helping out with the youth ministries and I am super
excited for the opportunity to help with the 9th grade boys D-group.
I graduated from Hope College with a mechanical engineering degree and
I work at Roush Industries in the Powertrain group. I enjoy hiking,
biking, sports, hands on projects, anything to do with cars, and
spending time with my wife. I am looking forward to the upcoming year
and can't wait to get to know everyone!
MELISSA BARNABO
9th Grade Girls
I have been attending DUMC since 2006 alongside my husband Richard, my daughter Elle (10th grade) and my son Tyler (5th grade.) I love our church community, and it has been such a blessing to watch the church grow, and thrive over the last 14 years! The Holy Spirit has been tugging on me for a few years to get involved in youth discipleship. I helped serve dinners Sunday nights at the Edge for three years. I watched in awe, as I experienced the magic that is… The Edge! I had my first real experience with youth discipleship at SOS in Memphis this past summer. After a week long mission trip with 50 high schoolers from DUMC, I knew that I needed to jump in with both feet!! This coming year, I will be of co-leading the 9th grade girls along with Amanda Osolu. I truly can’t wait to spend time with these amazing young women to see how the Lord is working in, and through all of us!!
AMANDA OSOLU
9th Grade Girls
We joined DUMC in 2016 when we moved up from Orlando, FL. I started with Club 56 that fall and have been hooked ever since! I have so enjoyed serving at the Edge and working with my now 9th grade girls. I’m generally hopping from one thing to another as I have four kids Kaobe (senior at MSU), Adaora (sophomore at WMU), Indrya (11th), and Leiah (9th). Between work as a nurse, my hobbies, my kids and spouse, Obeta, I have a very enriched life. I enjoy traveling, backpacking and hiking, eating delicious things, gardening and planning my next adventure. Our Creator has blessed me immensely and for that I am most grateful! Looking forward to Sunday evenings and all the possibilities of meeting God there with the Edge.
